Where was this guy 15 years ago when I was single and childless?  Oh right, 15 years ago I wasn't single and I wasn't childless and he was in grade school.  Oh well... How not to fall in love with his voice and those eyes... oh those eyes with a thousand expressions that tell the story as much as the voice and words do... If only I could sing like that.  Then the music could just stay with me.  In my head, when I hear music, it sounds like that.  Too bad I can't reproduce the sounds I hear in my head. A couple of months ago, a friend of mine shared this video on facebook: I watched it, and I said to myself, "Self, here is a guy who can just write up a song like that on the fly, sing it with a big smile on his face, and it sounds good with nothing accompanying him but the guitar."  And myself replied, "We have to check this guy out." I cannot imagine a more unfitting song than John Lennon's "Imagine" sung to help Haiti. I have come across a number of artists here and there, singing to raise funds for Haiti, and choosing that song, of all songs. To like a song, I have to like the lyrics. I hate the lyrics of Imagine. Madonna and I don't normally get along. I don't like her much, and if she knew me, she probably wouldn't like me much either. I've been mostly indifferent to her music. But this song, THIS SONG... is different. I would never have known it even existed except that I happened to be going through a music store in Paraguay of all places and came across an album with music from the Summer Olympics in Barcelona. I don't remember why I bought it. It certainly wasn't because Madonna was on it. But when I heard this song, it was my childhood in a nutshell. A song that shows some depth. Too bad it never made it to the radio.

El sábado se realizó el concierto de clausura del X Festival Nacional y X Seminario Nacional de Orquestas Juveniles de Sonidos de la Tierra. Más de mil jóvenes de diferentes localidades del país participaron en este concierto que se realizó en el estadio “El Cerrito” de Coronel Oviedo. Con la cámara de un aficionado, se pudo captar la imagen del ómnibus en llamas. El jueves se realizará un concierto benéfico. Tras el concierto, varias delegaciones emprendieron viaje a sus respectivos lugares. El ómnibus que transportaba a la delegación de Concepción se incendió en el camino. Afortunadamente, no hubo víctimas, pero sí los instrumentos y todas sus pertenencias se consumieron en el siniestro. Someone told me today that talking with me was something like having a mental orgasm. Apart from being a wonderful complement, it made me think of Christopher West's book Good News for Sex and Marriage. He describes sex between a husband and wife as a sacrament, as being the closest thing on earth to what we will have in Heaven being in Communion with God and each other. He compares sex to the Eucharist. Sex is something sacred, something holy, something extremely beautiful. It is good to have friends on earth with whom one can achieve this type of "spiritual orgasm".
